Description

Document legal disputes, claims, litigation, and resolutions thereof involving the University of Oregon. These records found in all media (paper, digital, or other) may include but are not limited to: 

  • tort claim notices, demand letters, notices of claims, litigation holds and preservation notices;  
  • briefs and court filings, including court orders;
  • settlement agreements and releases;
  • state and federal administrative complaints, responses and final decisions (EEOC, OCR, DOE, BOLI, DOJ, DEQ, etc.);
  • public records denials, appeals and decisions;
  • mediation and arbitration filings and decisions; and
  • related documentation. 
Retention and Disposal Instructions

(a) Settlement agreements, court orders, and final agency decisions, retain indefinitely; 

(b) All other records, 10 years after case close or last activity, purge. 

Exception: In the event of a subpoena, audit, legal hold, public records or similar state or federal information request, halt until further instructed any scheduled disposal activities, including purging or transferring material to University Archives.
