Description

Document hazardous chemicals in use.

  • inventories and lists, inluding the locations and years of their use;
  • material safety data sheets (MSDS)/safety data sheets for each chemicle currently in use;
  • operating procedures that cover "groups of hazardous chemicals in a work area where it may be more appropriate to address the hazards of a process rather than individual hazardous chemicals" as noted in 29 CFR 1910.1200(g)(10);
  • related documentation.
Retention and Disposal Instructions

(a) 30 years for inventories and lists, inluding the locations and years of the use of the chemicals documented, purge;

(b) as soon as chemicals no longer in use for related safety data sheets, purge. 

Exception: In the event of a subpoena, audit, legal hold, public records or similar state or federal information request, halt until further instructed any scheduled disposal activities, including purging or transferring material to University Archives.
